Playing base ball as it was intended.
The Base Ball Club Of Rising Sun
The boys fought galiantly despite missing key ballists from the regular nine, but were defeated in the end by a stronger opponent on Sunday April 13. Game 1: Lewes BBC 27- Rising Sun 10, game 2: Lewes BBC 20- Rising Sun 7
The Base Ball Club of Rising Sun ventured west to play host for a base ball match at the Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster, Maryland on Sunday. Following a skirmish between Union and Confederate troops, the boys from Brick Meetinghouse challenged members of the Chesapeake 9 of Baltimore and the Keystone BBC of Harrisburg. The match began as Colonel McCauley of the C.S.A. conducted the bat toss won by Rising Sun who opted to field first and hit last.
The combined squad referred to as the Capitol All Stars struck first and plated one tally. The boys from Brick Meetinghouse answered with five including a three tally cannon blast from their captain Tex Besancon. The Capitol club had no response and went down in order in the following innings while Rising Sun tallied five more in the second inning. While the visitors struggled in the field and at the dish the boys for Brick Meetinghouse continued to mount an impressive offensive attack led by newcomer Chase Furchess who was 5 for 5 at the dish and showed his defensive skills at 3rd base and catcher. Also going 5for 5 on the day for Rising Sun were veterans Smoke Lotion and Banker. The boys from Brick Meetinghouse came out on top with a final tally of 21-5. Next week the boys return home to Brick Meetinghouse for a double dip against the visiting Athletic Club of Philadelphia @ 1pm on McMillan Farm in the newly apportioned Calvert Regional Park.
